A digital photography workshop in Santiago, Chile – in collaboration with US nonprofit VE Global. Using donated digital point-and-shoot cameras, I created a curriculum exploring texture, perspective, pattern, color, balance, framing, background… As the workshops progressed, the students submitted their ideas of themes and learning objectives. We moved from purely formal explorations to communicating narrative. As they developed a discerning eye through the viewfinder, they also developed their skills directing and producing narrative through still images. During the last sequence of these workshops, the students created stories about dealing with bullying and other social challenges.
